- List of 5 Best Plug In Night Light & Ocean Projectors Reviews
What would a mermaid home be without some deep blue ocean night lights that will remind you of the sea? In this comparison, we test, use and review the best night lights that remind us of the ocean.
One of the most important things in a house is lighting, how natural light works within your home and what artificial lighting you use when it’s dark on an evening. This doesn’t stop with just lighting up a room to be able to see things. There are a few types of light products which can help you fall asleep, keep the kids calm and even help you navigate around a house safely at night.
A nightlight is a light that usually plugs in to a fixture on your wall and placed around the house to calm or to help in dark parts of the home when the sun sets.
The past few weeks, we thoroughly tested, used reviewed to see what are the best plug in night lights and best ocean ceiling projectors. We have chosen to test a number of different night lights, as they can all do similar jobs regards helping you fall asleep with their soothing blue light and some of them can be used as navigation aids on an evening too. We’ve chosen the colour blue for each night light as they are much more soothing, stylish and we feel would suit an ocean home more than a harsh white light.
Why A Blue Night Light?
Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect.
Which is why we think they are perfect for night lights, you want to stay calm when you’ve been awoken to go the toilet and they can also help you or your baby fall asleep due to their calming blue hue.
Different Types of Night Lights
We have tested plug in, USB and battery powered night lights, all with an ocean or blue theme to them. We have chosen different types so that we get a real insight in to how they can help and work for us.
The plug in night lights can be used to help with safety and helping you navigate around your home, they will only work when plugged in to a socket and usually come with a dark sensor on them. You can use them to aid you navigating your way around your home when it’s dark and to help calm you to sleep on an evening.
The USB night lights can be powered from a USB plug socket or from a laptop or computer device in your room.
Finally, the battery powered night lights are portable, can be used anywhere. Some we test are both plug in and battery powered which means you can leave them in the same position or move them around your home.
List of 5 Best Plug In Night Light & Ocean Projectors Reviews
What a great set of night lights, it was difficult to choose between them all, some offered practical improvements to our mermaid and ocean themed home and others were just so damn cute and reminded us of the ocean every time we used them.
We ranked the little ocean night light turtle 1st because it seemed to be everything we wanted. Not only is it cute, it’s practical too. Great for if we went camping and it would help the children sleep better. It would have been nice if we could plug it in somehow, or even just to recharge it, but we have some very good batteries that we recharge and always have spares on us.
We ranked a similar product third, the Aome Ocean Wave Projector, we had never seen these before but when researching night lights, we thought it would be a great idea to include this too. It is more of a bed time night light, maybe for kids or children, or even for you to use when you have a bath. It projects the most beautiful of colours on the ceiling and is also very fairly priced.
Our best ranked plug in night light is the Auto LED blue ring, it’s small, out of the way, has a dark sensor on it and costs very little to purchase and to run. It’s really simple in design and use and can help you navigate it’s way around the home or whatever room you have it in at night. We have ranked it 2nd just because it’s such a simple and practical product that looks great when on too.
Our 4th and 5th ranked products were still great little things, we just reviewed some awesome night lights in the past few weeks, this is more of a top 5 that we found online and in the shops rather than a run down of best to worst. We would highly recommend both, especially the childrens ocean night light, it has a lovely glow, has an ocean scene above the multicolour LED and is quite tranquil and relaxing to watch, as well as being a safety feature in a room if you need a bit of back lighting to move around.
1. Tranquil Turtle Ocean Night Light Blue
This is a review of the Tranquil Turtle Ocean Blue that provides both light and sound output that is said to be like the ocean. We discuss what we learnt about Tranquil Turtle Ocean Blue below.
I have to say myself and family love this little turtle.
The turtle is made of a soft material suitable for even young children to play with. It is easy to see the material is durable and of a good quality that also looks lovely in any household environment. It is run on 3 AAA batteries making it portable to be able to keep one of your children company while travelling in the car and on holiday. I would say it does go through batteries pretty quickly so you will need to stock up on them as your children may fall in love with this turtle!
This little turtle helps provide you, your children or baby with the relaxing surroundings of the ocean from inside the house. It projects beautiful blue ocean waves on the ceiling that can move at request as well as two musical options of the ocean waves or a soothing lullaby. Providing a perfect setting for a mermaid family all from one little turtle. You can control the volume level of the sounds and light movement from the dials on the back of the turtle.
- Shell glows in a relaxing aquamarine colour
- The turtle is portable being powered by 3 AA batteries
- Able to adjust the brightness using a slide control
- Soft material and actually looks like a turtle
- Suitable for children
- Produces beautiful water effects
- Comes with 2 optional sounds such as ocean waves or a tranquil melody
- A little pricey
- Goes through batteries quickly
This is one fantastic little turtle who may be a little pricey but provides one of the most relaxing environments that will happily send a troublesome sleeper into a beautifully calming ocean environment.
2. Auto LED Plug In Night Light with Sensor
A white plug in night light that can be used in any room in your house, it has a blue casing which gives it that lovely soothing glow. We test it out in our bedroom and hallway to help us at night when it’s dark walking around the house and to get to the toilet.
The main feature of this blue plug in night light is the sensor which turns the light on and off when it gets dark and light in your home. The sensor knows when it is darker in your living room or wherever you plug it in and automatically turns it self on for the night. When natural light comes back in to the house, the sensor see’s this and turns the night light off.
We tested ours in a few different rooms and the hall way to see what they were like at night time. These tests were to see what they were like in the room whilst we were falling asleep and also to help us navigate to the bathroom without putting on any main lights in the house.
The first place we had one plugged in was our bedroom, the walls are white and we had it plugged in to the right of the bed on the other side of our bedroom door. This way, we had a beautiful blue glow on our wall, which was soft, not too bright but most importantly very relaxing. We could see the door handle and the shape of the room with this light on and navigate to the door easily, this was great as we didn’t have to turn the light on and disturb the other half.
We could see this working perfectly in a childs or babies room as a baby plug in night light, help them feel safe at night when the lights go out.
The next test was the hall way, which we had a little problem with, the plug socket is much lower here than it is in our bedrooms and elsewhere. The socket sits just above the skirting board and for some reason the light would stay on all the time, we think this has to do with the sensor thinking it was dark all the time, because of how low it was. So something to check would be how high your plugs are against your floor. You can though just turn the plug it is in off for the day and on in the evening if you find you have this problem.
Something which we didn’t think we could use the night light for was our pet lobster (dog), he gets a little bit scared when we leave him alone on an evening and we’re out doing errands. So instead of leaving a house light on we left one of these on in the room he was in and it seemed to keep him a bit calmer and he’ll still be able to move around safely.
- Beautiful blue glow from the light which isn’t too bright or dull
- Very affordable, great price
- Helps you navigate around your house at night
- Can keep your children or baby calm at night if used in their room
- Low plug sockets might stop the sensor from working
- Looks plasticy in the day time, not the prettiest when not on
A great soft blue glow from this night light can be used around the home and to keep the kids calm when off to bed. Or used, like we did, to help us navigate around the house at night to go the toilet or kitchen. It did have a sensor problem but only in our hall way due to low plug socket. We are very happy with this ocean blue night light and love having it send us off to sleep.
3. Ohuhu Ocean Wave Night Light Projector and Music Player
This is a review of the Ohuhu Tech Ocean wave projection a projector that can provide both light and sound and used in a variety of different room locations, we discuss further how we found this projector.
The Ohuhu Tech Ocean Projector is a small compact device, it is made of plastic with a sleek design that is also waterproof. I have not tested out how waterproof the projector is and I wouldn’t recommend this but it does imply the use of having it in the bathroom.
What I really like about this projector is the variety of choice provided. In terms of colours there are red, blue and green, you can adjust the lighting effects and the speed the light rotates from being able to make it faster or slower at personal preference.
To set the projector up it needs to be powered by either 2 AA batteries, the mains or attached to your laptop with USB cable. There is a little problem in that the cable is very short making it difficult to reach from the mains plug to for example your bed side table.
Like is says it “transports you to the open seas as soon as you dim the lights” and it really does with its projection of blue watery tropical water on the ceiling, perfect for any mermaid. The different lighting effects such as the ocean wave provide a soothing, relaxing environment to help improve your mood. The lighting patterns are truly lovely what I would say is you do need the lights to be out or at least dimmed to gain the best effect. The added bonus of having a built in speaker in the projector allows you to plug in your mp3, mp4 or phone with your favourite soothing tunes.
- Portable – can be used with batteries
- Waterproof – can be used in the bathroom
- Has multiple colours and speed options
- Allows you to attach your favourite relaxing music
- Cuts out after 1 hour helpful for going to sleep
- Short cable wire
- Requires darkness
- Cuts out after 1 hour not so helpful if wanting it to help you relax for an evening.
The Ohuhu Tech projector really does take you back to the ocean via its beautiful lighting and added sound features. Makes a lovely gift for someone needing to relax, a parent with their baby or just an ocean loving mermaid.
4. Childrens Plug-In Night Light Ocean Scene
A fantastically lovely ocean themed childrens night light that has an ocean theme which is lit with a multicolour LED from the bottom.
A really relaxing and tranquil childrens night light with a bit of a difference. This night light has a backing picture of an underwater scene, the rest of the light is made up of a sealed water section which has some lovely little underwater creatures in it, couldn’t be any more perfect for a budding mermaid and merman.
Inside it has shells and some grass and little fish which move around in the water, all the while whilst the multicolour LED changes colour beneath it and shines through the underwater scene.
We tested it in our bedroom for when it gets dark, we can see it from our bed and it’s really pretty and cool. The colour changes very slowly beneath and shines out through the top of it and softly spreading it’s glow around the floor and walls of our room. It can definitely be used to help you see around the room and isn’t too bright to keep you awake.
We have it turned on at the socket all the time and it doesn’t use any power throughout the day or if we have the lights on in the bedroom. It has a dark sensor on it, so as the evening creeps in and it gets darker, the light automatically turns on and stays on until the next morning.
- Great for children or if you want a baby night light
- Underwater scene is unique
- Has a dark sensor which automatically turns it on at dusk and off at dawn
- Really great price for such a novel, underwater & ocean themed night light
- Hard to think of any problems, been using it for a while
Absolutely perfect as a childrens night light or for a baby. It has a really nice underwater scene and lights up the room gently as it changes colour. Can’t really go wrong with this if you are after something calming for the little ones and to help with getting around when its dark.
5. Blue Automatic LED Night Light
This is a review of the Long Life Lamp Company’s Blue automatic LED night light that is said to be quite the helpful friend to night owls while the rest of the family are in bed, we discuss why.
This little light is a cheaply price piece of background lighting. It is a simple design that plugs straight into the mains.
Its ability to switch on as soon as it goes dark and turn off when it becomes daylight again is brilliant, personally for me being a little cautious didn’t want to leave it on all night instead I feel it is a handy light to be able to switch on at night that doesn’t glare or wake my partner up. Being so cheap you can easily buy a few of these to put in different rooms such as your bedroom or hallway. Its simplicity as a small plug design means it can literally be put anywhere there is a mains plug.
It comes in 5 different colour options blue, green, pink, red and white. As a stay at home mermaid the blue and green lights work best for me.
- Small and compact
- Can automatically switch on at dusk and switches off automatically at dawn. It uses Photocell Sensor.
- Works well at night to provide a small amount of light for moving around safely at night time.
- Uses three long life LED bulbs
- Not an intrusive light
- Easy to use
- CE approved
- Should not be left on all day as may burn out.
- Very sutle light only lighting a small area
- Requires a mains outlet.
A small, cheaply priced and simple light that is useful for those who need to move around easily at night time without waking up family members.
